Kitchen Garden
What's it about?
A beautiful bright community garden space in the heart of Repton, Ashford. Everyone is welcome to come together with the common goal of growing fresh produce.
Our space doubled at the end of 2023 so there is lots of room for everybody!
Our Kitchen Garden is situated in the woodland area at the back of the Repton Connect Community Centre, accessed from the car park.

Fun facts!
Our original garden group built the space from scratch from 2018-2022. The space had great bones and by 2023 – it was in need of a makeover.
Louise, our Food Projects Manager, started a weekly gardening session with volunteers from the community and residents at The Holiday Inn, Bybrook. Alongside Frances Hunt of Mockford & Hunt, a local estate agents.

The Makeover
We set about clearing the invasive mare’s tail from the beds- an ongoing battle! Paths were mown and strimmed and we discovered cabbages, fruit bushes and even some lettuces still growing!
A large donation of seedlings from a local resident were planted: including tomatoes for outside the community shop, and squashes, potatoes, courgettes, herbs and cucumbers in the beds.
Our team of volunteers enjoyed growing and harvesting produce to give away in our Community Fridges.
Staff from B&Q, Repton Community Trust and volunteers from the asylum seeker and local community stepped up to work together and achieve a huge amount.
Our growing space was doubled with new raised beds, a polytunnel and handmade bespoke workbench. The shed was painted and its roof extended to catch more rainwater with new gutters and water butts.
Our volunteers enjoy cooking with the produce they grow, creating beautiful fresh dishes in the kitchen space at Repton Connect Community Centre.
