Summer newsletter - August 2021

Ashford Holiday Kitchen

Now Summer is drawing to a close, we thought you'd like to see some of the work from The Ashford Holiday Kitchen project.

Ashford Holiday Kitchen is a group of organisations working together to end hunger and isolation for families in Ashford. We meet monthly to share ideas, funding, and resources.

Here’s just some of what we’ve been up to...

Ashford Together Family Food and Fun...

We’ve been inviting families all over the summer into our safe spaces where they can have fun together, be creative together and share a hot meal (and pudding!) together!

We meet between 11 - 1 on Mondays at Willesborough Baptist Church (Hythe Road), Tuesdays at Gateway Church (South Ashford), and on Fridays at Bright City Church (in town). Additionally, we’ve been running breakfast on a Tuesday at the United Church in Kennington (Faversham Road), serving more choices for breakfast than a hotel!

Each space has had a variety of different activities and games, crafts and (in two locations) outside space too.

Funding awarded

The Hope Tree, Ashford and District Homestart, Ashford Vineyard, Nurture Learning, Willesborough WI Hall, Ashford Together, Repton Community Trust and Ashford Churches were all awarded funding for Summer activities through Ashford Holiday Kitchen, via Kent County Councils Early Help (Support for families).

Putting the heard in communities

Our summer, timetable has been packed with activities including arts and crafts, drama, outdoor learning, Reptumbles soft play, table tennis and soft archery (no pointy arrows!). We’ve held a BBQ for Wyvern Schools Sixth Form, hosted children and young people’s drop-in café sessions Barista Buddies and launched our recipe box scheme for families Good Mood Food.

Nurture Learning

Just 5 sessions left of our summer fun tuition!

Are you thinking of registering your child but you’re not sure what our Summer tuition is all about?

Our workshops kickstart with well-being exercises and positive affirmations to prepare children to achieve their goals and develop their self-belief. We then go full steam ahead into our separate teacher-led lessons on either Mathematics and Phonics/English or 11+ familiarisation.

After our interactive learning, the children recharge with a healthy snack - which is provided - before burning off steam with supported play activities, including games, creative arts and exploring the private woodland. Every lesson finishes with our meditative Chillaxations and an opportunity to celebrate every single child’s progress.

There is a lot packed into each session!

We still have spaces available:

Please call 01233 349033 or email to book or register your interest in our upcoming Saturday classes.
